The Lordship of Meath

 The Lordship of Meath was granted to Hugh de Lacy in 1172 following the Norman Invasion. This was the beginning of Ireland’s political functions as it is known today. The de Lacy family built many of the castles in County Meath and Westmeath throughout their conquests in Ireland.
